Is Chad Johnson’s Career Over?
Chad Johnson, formerly know as Chad Ochocinco, has been cut by a second team in less than a year. The Miami Dolphins released Johnson yesterday after allegations of domestic violence were brought against him. Johnson’s wife, Evelyn Lozada from the reality television show “Basketball Wives,” had claimed that he head-butted her during a verbal dispute about a receipt for condoms she found in the trunk of his car. After being released on $2,500 bond this morning, Chad now finds himself trying to rebuild his image for the umpteenth time. After being released by the Super Bowl losing New England Patriots at the end of last season and now being released by the joke of a team Miami Dolphins after only one preseason game, one can only think if this will be the last we see of the biggest character in the NFL for over a decade.
Chad Jonson seems to be following in the footpath of fellow infamous superstar, Terrell Owens. Unfortunately for Johnson, his career has been a lot shorter and less successful than that of Owens’. Chad has been elected to 6-Pro Bowls and he has made 3-All Pro teams in his 12 year career. He is the record holder for pretty much every major category for Receivers in Cincinnati Bengals history: Most receiving yards in a season (1,440), Most receiving yards all-time (10,507), Most receptions (751), Most touchdown receptions (66), Most receiving yards in a game (260), Most seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards (7), Most touchdown receptions in a game (3, tied with several other players).
Even with those remarkable numbers, Johnson is still best known for his off-field antics. “Child, Please,” was Johnson’s go to catch phrase, which even earned him a guest spot as himself on my favorite television show, “The League.” Between his on field celebrations and his off field television appearances and quotes, Chad Johnson has kept the football fans around the world entertained. Here is a video of some of Johnson’s best work.
When you see a character like that you can only hope that he is actually a good person, but in Johnson’s case he is actually a piece of shit. Even though Johnson’s August 11 arrest was the first in his life, the things he says and the way he acts leads you to believe he just doesn’t care about anyone but himself. The self-proclaimed “Future H.O.F,” has made it seem time and again that he is the only reason for his own successes. He has never been the one to give credit to teammates or coaches.
So the question remains, Will Chad Johnson get picked up by another team and continue his NFL career? I would have to say no! Even though I still think that he would be in the top 20 receivers talent wise in the NFL, his distractions and ability to mess up the locker room vibes makes him a hazard to any team. Maybe he can fit with my Jets because let’s be honest, how much more dysfunctional can that locker room get. It saddens me to say that with this recent arrest and release from the Dolphins, I no longer think Johnson is a shoo in for the Hall of Fame. As a matter of fact, if Johnson doesn’t make a significant comeback, than he can kiss Canton, Ohio (That’s where the Football Hall of Fame is) goodbye.
