Get that Paper Boys!
The entire Kentucky Wildcats starting 5 has declared for the NBA draft. Anthony Davis and company went to Kentucky for one reason, to win a quick championship and get paid. There are many people who do not like this trend of NCAA basketball. They complain that it is ruining the college game and that no dynasties are possible because players such as these Wildcats are one and done. However, if you think about it, isn’t the point of college generally so you could get a good job that pays well. How many jobs pay better than NBA ball players? Not too many.
These players have stayed within the system, earned everything that have coming to them and are making the correct decisions for themselves and their families. Anthony Davis will be the first pick, sign a multi-million dollar signing bonus, get a fat salary and a huge shoe deal by the time the summer starts. If he stayed in college he would be much poorer, have nothing left to prove, and risk injury that could potentially ruin his chances for all the money he is guaranteed to have right now. In America, if you are 18, you can become employed. If the NBA owners are willing to invest their money into these kids, who was we to say they shouldn’t take it? The colleges will always replace their stars with new players, so I believe in this current system, all parties are making out pretty well.
